One of the main symptoms of depression is feeling low and such a feeling acts as an obstacle for the patient to lead a normal life. Fluoxetine from the SSRI family of drugs help these patients to pull back their life. The drug slows down the reabsorption process of Serotonin, a neurotransmitter in the brain, which in its low levels causes depression. Usually serotonin released by the nerve cells is quickly reabsorped again by the nerve cells. Hence, by slowing down the process serotonin levels in the brain go up and thereby help in bringing the patients out of their depression.
Fluoxetine drug is available in tablets, capsules and solution forms. Depending upon the medical condition and difficulties a patient faces one of the form is recommended.
